angel banner stands

Printdesigns have created a brand new design for a cost effective desktop display stand. Available at A4 or A3 size, we have named the product the Angel Banner Stand.

The product is formed from one single piece of expanded PVC which makes it incredibly lightweight (less than 80 grams) for the A4 version of the stand and therefore ideally suited for mass marketing campaigns where the units can be despatched flat-packed in hard-backed envelopes cost-effectively.

The Angel banner stand uses tension on the printed panel in order that it sits as flat as possible over the framework. The stand will accept a variety of substrates including PVC, tear resistant paper, polyester and also fabrics for a unique, modern appearance.

The Angel desktop banner stand is a welcome alternative to traditional desktop roller banners which contain moving parts and can become damaged easily. The stand is also a good alternative when compared to acrylic type poster holders that are very fragile.

At the end of this year, we have been looking at developing some new, interesting  products which make use of our Zund cutting facilities. The stands in question are made from engineered cardboard and are folded and creased in such a way that the stand can be self-assembled on site.

Cardboard POS stands are big business and sold by companies like DS Smith Kaysersberg (see images below). The great thing about these types of display is that they are lightweight and can be recycled more easily than other types of display that are made from metal and plastic.

Our range of folding cardboard POS stands will launch in 2012 and we hope that some of the displays like our totem pop up display will prove to be viable alternatives to traditional banner stands for many of our customers.

By printing our displays digitally, we will be offering our folding POS displays for purchase as single units which means that for smaller businesses, they will be affordable. Until now, many suppliers involved in the industry are not geared towards producing one off products or small runs and so displays like these have not been accessible for the typical exhibitor who only needs to purchase a limited number of units.

When we talk to our customers by phone or when we talk about products on our website, we try to describe in as much open and honest detail as possible the about item and highlight all the benefits and drawbacks of that product when compared to other offerings.

On the particular suppliers website I found comments like these:-

“PLEASE BEWARE. Even though we have access to the so called discount cheap rollable stands which sell for between £40 and £69WE DO NOT AND WILL NOT SELL THEM.
These cheap stands are not  sold at a discount but built to that price and are not fit for purpose and are more trouble than they are worth.”

In other words… They cannot supply the same value stands as some suppliers so we will attempt to scare you into paying more money for the same thing!

I cannot say I have ever come across a banner stand made from aircraft grade aluminium but I save seen first hand the stands from this particular supplier when a customer brought some to me for some cost effective reprints and the thickness of the aluminium was the same as our own budget banner stands!

It’s a shame when a business has to use negative selling techniques and fear in order to persuade a customer to spend more money on a product that they should have to. It does not sit with me well at all.

Depending on the size of the display, the pop up stand could contain many panels and obviously it is more cost effective to change over only one panel that it is to replace a whole set. For this reason why not design the artwork for one of the pop up stand panel drops to be interchangeable?

So why do we need to design the replaceable panel differently than normal?…..

Due to restrictions in the printing process, it is impossible to guarantee an exact colour match if too much time has elapsed between the original panels being printed and the replacement panel being required.

The problems are down to several factors including:

• Air temperature
• Humidity
• Batch of ink
• Batch of Media
• Calibration fluctuations of printer
• Condition of thermal heads in printer (they are changed every couple of litres of ink)

If many Months or even years have elapsed since originally printing the pop up display, the likelhood of getting an exact panel match or colour an alignment is slim.

If one or more of the stand panels are to be changed then it’s best to make the interchangeable ones distinct from those that surrounding ones so there is nothing critical to match up. Why not design the replaceable panel in a different colour entirely? It sounds odd but actually on a display an informational panel like this is very effective!

Sure there are differences between the materials supplier use to print pop up displays which can make the difference between a good pop up stand and a bad pop up stand but ultimately most suppliers print their graphics in a similar way and even source their hardware (the frames) from the same source.

I am continually amazed by the enormous price differential between identical products from different suppliers and I wonder how the expensive suppliers can charge more?

One technique I have seen used many times is for the expensive supplier to brand the pop up stand with an alternative name so it sounds like something different from one of the other cheaper pop up display stand suppliers on the web!

Today, I noticed that Marler Haley offer a stand called a veloce portable banner display or veloce pop up display stand. When I looked at the detail pictures of the frame I noticed the stand is in fact manufactured by Ultima Displays, one of our own suppliers.

From the pictures on the Marler Hayley website, we can see that the Velcoce pop up stand is the same as our quick fix pop up display which is available on our website for a lower price.
