Premium Roller Banner Built for Regular Use

The Barracuda is a premium roller banner stand designed for businesses that want a display they can use regularly for many years rather than a lightweight, disposable alternative.

Its substantial anodised aluminium base, quality components, adjustable support system and replaceable graphics make the Barracuda particularly well suited to exhibitions, conferences, retail environments and other locations where the display may be assembled and transported frequently.

The Barracuda has been an established part of the exhibition display market for more than two decades. Although the hardware has evolved over the years, its original principle remains the same: a dependable, professional roller banner that offers a noticeable step up from budget pull-up displays.

Substantial Footless Aluminium Base

One of the first differences you notice when handling a Barracuda is the quality and weight of the base. It feels noticeably more substantial than a lightweight economy roller banner without becoming unnecessarily difficult to transport.

The anodised aluminium housing has smooth finished edges and durable dark end caps. Its relatively deep footprint allows the stand to remain stable without the large swing-out support feet commonly found on cheaper roller banner systems.

This wider, heavier footprint makes the Barracuda a particularly good choice for busy exhibition halls, retail environments and other higher-traffic indoor locations.

Individually Adjustable Levelling Feet

Four adjustable feet are positioned underneath the Barracuda base, one towards each corner of the stand.

Each foot can be independently adjusted to compensate for slightly uneven flooring, helping the banner stand upright rather than leaning to one side.

They also allow a small amount of front-to-back adjustment. Raising the rear feet and lowering the front, or vice versa, allows the attitude of the display to be fine-tuned if required.

It is a relatively small engineering detail, but one that becomes particularly useful when a display is being repeatedly installed in different venues.

Adjustable Telescopic Support Pole

Rather than using a simple fixed-height pole, the Barracuda uses an adjustable telescopic support system.

In normal use most customers set the stand at approximately its full display height, but the telescopic section provides useful flexibility when the stand needs to be installed beneath a lower ceiling, inside an alcove or in another restricted location.

The upper section terminates in a shaped connector which locates securely into the rear of the top rail.

The 2000mm and 2400mm wide Barracuda models use two support poles rather than one central pole to support the wider graphic.

Secure Clamping Top Rail with Captive End Caps

The graphic is secured at the top using a mechanical clamping rail rather than relying on adhesive alone.

A physical clamping system provides a secure grip across the top edge of the print and avoids some of the potential problems associated with adhesive top rails, where the adhesive can eventually fail or react differently with particular graphic materials.

Another thoughtful detail is the use of captive plastic end caps. On many roller banner rails the end plugs are completely removable and can easily become lost when a graphic is changed.

On the Barracuda, the end caps remain retained within a channel at the rear of the rail. They can be popped out to open the clamping profile and pushed back into place afterwards, without becoming loose separate parts.

Replace the Graphic, Not the Stand

The Barracuda is designed as a long-term display system, and replacement graphics are available when branding, campaigns or promotional messages change.

The existing graphic can be removed from the cassette and the reusable clamping top rail transferred to the replacement print. New graphics can also be supplied with suitable self-adhesive fixing tape already applied to make installation easier.

Replacing only the printed graphic rather than buying an entirely new roller banner can reduce the long-term cost of ownership and avoids unnecessarily disposing of serviceable hardware.

Barracuda roller banner adjustable spring tension mechanism

Adjustable Roller Spring Tension

A further advantage of the Barracuda is that the tension of the internal roller mechanism can be adjusted.

Different graphic materials have different weights and thicknesses. A particularly heavy graphic may require additional spring tension to retract reliably, while an excessively strong spring can place unnecessary pull on a lighter material.

The adjustment mechanism positioned in the end of the cassette allows the tension to be increased or decreased to suit the graphic being fitted.

This is also useful when replacing a graphic because the spring can be backed off to expose the graphic leader, allowing the old print to be removed and the replacement attached without relying on a separate locking pin.

When you purchase a complete printed Barracuda from Printdesigns, the roller tension is preset to suit the graphic material supplied. Adjustment should not normally be required unless the graphic is subsequently changed.

Choose the Right Graphic for Your Application

Barracuda roller banners are available with several different graphic finishes, allowing the printed display to be matched more closely to its intended use.

SoFlat Grey-Back Display Film

Our standard graphic is produced on a smooth matt polyester display film with a grey backing.

The grey reverse makes the material opaque, helping prevent light and the rear support pole from showing through the face of the graphic when the stand is positioned in front of windows or other bright light sources.

Blockout Fabric Graphic

For a softer and more natural appearance, the Barracuda can be supplied with a dye-sublimation printed blockout fabric graphic.

The fabric has a black backing for opacity and produces a beautifully flat, low-reflection surface. It is particularly suited to premium retail, interior, photographic and design-led environments where a more textile-like appearance is preferred.

Protective Laminated Graphic

For exceptionally high-frequency use, the SoFlat graphic can be over-laminated with an additional protective layer.

Repeated rolling and unrolling inevitably causes the graphic surface to contact itself inside the cassette. The additional laminate provides greater protection against scuffing and surface wear over prolonged use.

Currently available on Barracuda stands up to 1000mm wide.

EFI large format digital printer used to produce Barracuda roller banner graphics

High Quality Digital Printing

SoFlat Barracuda graphics are digitally printed using our industrial EFI UV printing equipment.

The ink is applied to the surface of the material as a liquid and cured into a flexible solid print layer. The resulting finish is predominantly matt with a very slight lustre, helping colours retain depth without creating an excessively glossy or reflective surface.

UV printing produces a durable graphic with good resistance to fading, moisture and normal handling.

Our blockout fabric graphics are produced using a different process. Dye-sublimation printing transfers the colour into the fibres of the fabric itself, producing a durable printed textile with a softer and more natural appearance.

Seven Widths from 800mm to 2400mm

Barracuda roller banners are available in an unusually broad range of widths, from standard individual displays through to very large-format backdrops.

800mm 850mm 1000mm 1200mm 1500mm 2000mm 2400mm

The 2000mm and 2400mm models use twin support poles. They can be assembled by one person, although having a second person available makes raising and attaching such a wide graphic considerably easier.

Planning to buy the 2400mm version?
This is a very large portable display. The cassette itself is approximately 2460mm wide, so check that you have a suitable estate car, van or other vehicle available if you intend to transport the stand yourself.

Barracuda Sizes, Dimensions & Weights

Although the quoted Barracuda size refers to the width of the printed graphic, the aluminium cassette extends slightly beyond the print at each side. The table below shows the nominal graphic width, overall hardware width and manufacturer-specified hardware weight for each version.

Graphic Width Overall Width Base Depth Hardware Weight*
800mm 860mm 200mm 4.25kg
850mm 910mm 200mm 4.37kg
1000mm 1060mm 200mm 5.00kg
1200mm 1260mm 200mm 6.16kg
1500mm 1560mm 200mm 7.33kg
2000mm 2060mm 200mm 9.14kg
2400mm 2460mm 200mm 10.58kg

*Weights shown are manufacturer specifications for the Barracuda hardware and exclude the printed graphic. Finished product weight will vary slightly depending on the graphic material selected.

Graphic Size & Display Height

Total graphic height 2280mm
Nominal visible graphic area 2130mm high
Graphic concealed inside cassette Approximately 150mm
Support poles Single pole on 800mm, 850mm, 1000mm, 1200mm and 1500mm widths; twin poles on 2000mm and 2400mm widths

Our artwork templates are based around a 2280mm total graphic height. Approximately 150mm of the lower graphic remains concealed within the cassette, giving a nominal visible area of 2130mm.

The telescopic pole allows the stand to be operated at a reduced height where required. If you intend to regularly use the Barracuda lower than its normal display height, keep important text, logos and other design elements away from the lower portion of the artwork so additional material can remain inside the cassette without hiding essential content.

Barracuda roller banner base support pole and padded carry bag

What's Included?

A complete Barracuda roller banner is supplied with the aluminium cassette, support pole system, printed graphic and a padded transport bag.

The bag is manufactured from durable material with quality zips, carry handles and an identification window that can be used to label individual stands where several displays are being transported together.

The carry bag is intended to protect the stand while it is being moved by hand between vehicles, exhibitions, offices and event venues.

Courier transport: The padded carry bag should not be used as the sole packaging when sending a Barracuda through a parcel or courier network. When Printdesigns dispatches a stand, the complete bagged display is additionally protected inside a durable outer carton.

Quick and Straightforward to Assemble

Despite its more substantial construction, the Barracuda retains the simplicity that makes roller banners so popular.

Position the cassette on the floor, assemble and fit the support pole, pull the graphic smoothly from the base and connect the top rail to the pole. When the display is no longer required, the process is reversed and the graphic retracts safely back into the cassette.

The print remains protected inside the aluminium housing during normal transportation and storage.

Artwork Checked Before We Print

Artwork templates are available to help you prepare your Barracuda graphic at the correct size.

Before production, supplied artwork undergoes our technical preflight process. We check factors such as document dimensions, image resolution at finished size, colour setup and font handling, and prepare the production artwork for our printing workflow.

You will receive a PREFLIGHT PDF showing the artwork we intend to print together with an Artwork Check Report highlighting any technical points that we believe you should review.

Check all wording, contact details, images, logos and layout carefully and approve the PREFLIGHT PDF once you are satisfied. Production begins following artwork approval.

Standard & Express Production Available

We offer both standard and express production options for Barracuda roller banners.

Current estimated production and delivery dates, together with the available delivery services and full delivery costs, are shown during checkout so you can select the option that best matches your deadline.

Designed as a Long-Term Display

The Barracuda is backed by a lifetime manufacturer's hardware warranty, subject to the manufacturer's warranty terms.

More importantly, its replaceable graphics, reusable top rail, adjustable spring mechanism and robust hardware mean the stand has been designed with repeated long-term use in mind rather than as a disposable promotional product.

Barracuda Roller Banner FAQs

What makes the Barracuda different from a budget roller banner?

The Barracuda uses a heavier, more substantial aluminium cassette, a wider footprint, adjustable levelling feet, an adjustable-height support pole, a reusable clamping top rail and an adjustable roller tension mechanism. It is designed for customers who expect to assemble and use their display regularly rather than treat it as a disposable product.

What widths are available?

The Barracuda is available in 800mm, 850mm, 1000mm, 1200mm, 1500mm, 2000mm and 2400mm widths. The 2000mm and 2400mm versions use twin support poles.

How much does a Barracuda roller banner weigh?

Manufacturer-specified hardware weights range from 4.25kg for the 800mm model to 10.58kg for the 2400mm model. These figures exclude the printed graphic, so the finished weight varies slightly according to the print material selected. Full weights for each width are shown in the specification table above.

Can the printed graphic be replaced?

Yes. Replacement Barracuda graphics are available. The spring tension can be backed off to expose the graphic leader, allowing the existing print to be removed and a replacement fitted. The clamping top rail is reusable.

What material is the standard Barracuda graphic printed on?

Our standard graphic is printed on SoFlat grey-backed polyester display film. The smooth matt face provides a professional finish while the grey reverse makes the material opaque and reduces show-through from strong light sources or the rear support pole.

Can I have a fabric graphic?

Yes. A black-backed blockout fabric option is available and is printed using dye sublimation. It provides a soft, natural, low-reflection appearance that works particularly well in premium retail, interior and photographic environments.

Can the graphic be laminated?

A protective laminated SoFlat graphic is available on Barracuda stands up to 1000mm wide. It is particularly useful where the display will be raised and retracted exceptionally frequently and additional resistance to surface scuffing is desirable.

Is the height adjustable?

Yes. The Barracuda uses a telescopic support pole. Our artwork template provides a nominal 2130mm visible graphic height, although the stand can be operated lower where required if the artwork has been designed with sufficient clear space towards the bottom.

Can one person assemble the 2000mm or 2400mm Barracuda?

It is possible, but the wider models are easier to assemble with two people. Each person can raise one side of the graphic and connect it to one of the two support poles.

Can I send the Barracuda through a courier network in its carry bag?

We do not recommend using the padded carry bag as the sole packaging for courier transportation. The bag is intended for normal hand transportation between venues. When we dispatch a Barracuda, the bagged stand is additionally packed inside a protective outer carton.

Will you check my artwork before printing?

Yes. Supplied artwork undergoes a technical preflight check and you will receive a PREFLIGHT PDF for approval before manufacture. The check looks at production-related factors such as size, image resolution, colour setup and font handling, but you should still carefully check all wording, contact information, images and layout before approving the proof.

Is the Barracuda suitable for outdoor use?

No. The Barracuda is designed primarily as an indoor roller banner for exhibitions, conferences, retail displays, showrooms, offices and similar environments.

Is the 2400mm Barracuda easy to transport?

It remains portable, but it is a very large roller banner. The cassette itself is approximately 2460mm wide, so you will normally require a suitably sized estate car, van or commercial vehicle to transport it.

If you send your artwork via email, file transfer service or FTP, please send an email to [email protected] and provide your order number along with any other specific instructions.

When we receive your artwork we will update you to let you know that your files have been received. We will also confirm that the artwork you have provided is suitable for the products that you have ordered.

Is a signature required on delivery of my order?

We use a range of courier companies to deliver our exhibition stands and other products. Most couriers will require a signature on the delivery of your order to confirm the date and time of the delivery (and that the goods are received in good condition).

Normally we will email the tracking information for your order on the evening of the day of dispatch so that you can know to expect the delivery. If you want to check the progress of the delivery then you can enter the tracking information online for an update or call the telephone number provided.

If no-one is available to sign for your delivery then the courier will normally leave a card to say that a delivery was attempted and would then take the parcel away. The delivery is normally re-attempted the next working day.

Depending on the courier, the delivery could be re-attempted two or three times before the parcel would eventually be returned to us. If the courier attempts delivery on multiple occasions with no success resulting in the parcel being returned then we can re-dispatch the parcel again for you but would bill the carriage cost again.

Sometimes we are asked if the courier can telephone in advance of the delivery being made. Unfortunately this is not possible because the couriers are not generally provided with mobile telephones. All instructions tend to be relayed to the courier by the depot via a hand held computer terminal that the driver carries.

If you need to receive a delivery on a particular day but are not going to be around to sign for the parcel then the best advice we can give is to write a note explaining that you are expecting a delivery but are not around to receive it. You can request the courier leaves the parcel with no signature or with a neighbor. We would advise that you write the consignment note of the parcel on the letter and sign it.

Ultimately it is down to the drivers discretion whether to leave the parcel and so we cannot accept responsibility for late deliveries if there is no one available to accept the order when the delivery is made.

How long does production and delivery take?

For most items that are printed, the standard production time is 5 working days.

Based on standard production if an order arrives on a Monday morning (first thing) then the goods should be dispatched no later than the following Monday.

If orders are placed later in the day then we would not normally class that day as a full day’s production time and therefore an order placed on a Monday afternoon would be dispatched no later than a week the following Tuesday.

For rush orders, we offer an express production service whereby the item can printed and dispatched in 1-2 working days. An item placed on express production on a Monday would generally ship no later than Tuesday the day after. We recommend you call us prior to placing an express order to confirm your delivery schedule.

We offer a variety of courier services selectable from the checkout on our website. Standard delivery is normally next working day from the day of dispatch (so an order dispatched on a Tuesday would be delivered on Wednesday).

We also offer timed delivery services (pre-noon, pre 10.30am, pre 9am etc) at additional costs.

Please note that although we always do everything within our power to ensure that goods are dispatched on-time, there can be rare occasions whereby production could be delayed due to circumstances outside of our control. Such circumstances could involve a power outage, equipment failure etc.

With regards to courier delivery times, there is no insurance or consequential insurance for late deliveries with next day couriers. We would always recommend that you arrange for a delivery to be made in advance of your required date just in case!

For no-fail deliveries we can arrange for a dedicated vehicle and driver – please call for prices.

Can you colour match to Pantone references?

The Pantone colour scale is an industry standard series of reference colours for use in the printing industry.

Pantone or spot colours are normally used by lithographic or screen printers when printing items with a limited number of colours (for example a letterhead, or stationary). Pantone ink is purchased by the printer who then creates a screen or plate specifically for that colour ink.

We use a CMYK (full colour) process of printing rather than a spot colour method. With a CMYK print process, Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Black are mixed by layering ink on top of each other to create a full-colour image. Sometimes other colours like light cyan and light magenta are also used to improve print quality.

We cannot guarantee to match all Pantone colours because some Pantone’s contain pigments that push the colour outside of the spectrum of colours available with CMYK inks.

An example would be Pantone 021 orange which is a very bright, almost neon colour. It is impossible to get a close match to this colour with CMYK printing because the colour is too bright.

There are many other colours in the Pantone spectrum that are relatively easy to match but also some that are impossible to closely match. Pantone sell a solid to process guide book which is useful because the Pantone colour is shows next to the nearest CMYK colour as two separate colour chips. If you can access a Pantone solid to process guide book then you can see at a glance how closely your pantone colour can be matched with a CMYK printing process.

All artwork supplied should be set as CMYK colour mode, not Pantone spot colour. If you do not have a Pantone solid to process guide book and need some advice as to the best CMYK colour value to use in the artwork, please call and we can help.

If you have very precise colour matching requirements for your artwork then we recommend purchasing a reduced-scale hard copy proof prior to printing the finished article. The cost is £20 and includes delivery of the proof to a mainland UK address.

What resolution does my artwork need to be?

As a rule of thumb, we recommend that artwork resolution should be 150dpi or greater at full scale for a large format print (anything A2 or larger).

If you are designing your artwork at a reduced scale (say half or quarter size) then the resolution of the artwork needs to be increased proportionally so that when the file is blown-up for printing, the quality is high enough to allow for it.

So, if setting your artwork at half size then double the resolution to 300dpi or if setting the artwork at quarter size then quadruple the resolution to 600dpi!

What if my image is not big enough for 150dpi output at full size?

When printing images at very large sizes, it is not uncommon that the original file be unavailable at a large enough size to provide 150dpi output and this does not mean that you cannot use the image! In fact much smaller images can sometimes be OK for print.

Bear in mind factors that determine if the image is acceptable:-

  1. The viewing distance of the image (how closely it will be examined)
  2. The content of the image itself (does it contain lots of intricate detail or is it a more abstract image).

Most displays have a viewing distance of at least a couple of Metres and so a large background image need not contain pin-sharp detail. If the image is abstract or does not contain precise detail then you can ‘get away’ with using a smaller image.

If your image is small then you can up-sample it in an application like Photoshop which increases the image size by splitting the pixels (interpolating) into more pixels. A byproduct of this process is the image can become ‘softer’ and it is therefore a good idea to zoom-in on the picture at approximately finished size on screen and then stand back from the display to gain an impression of what the printed result would be like.

If you have concerns about image quality then let us know about it when you submit your artwork and one of our team can take a look for you.

What types of artwork files can you accept?

We support most ‘industry-standard’ artwork file types. Examples of supported formats include:-

  • Adobe Photoshop
  • Adobe Indesign
  • Adobe Illustrator
  • Quark XPress

We also accept generic artwork formats including:-

  • JPG
  • TIFF
  • EPS
  • PDF
  • BMP
  • PNG

When supplying artwork from the original design package (for example an Adobe Indesign file), it is important to send over all linked images and fonts as well as the Adobe Indesign document itself.

If you are exporting artwork from a design package into a generic format such as PDF then there is generally no need to supply artwork components such as images and fonts separately unless you need us to re-open and edit the file for you.

Most people would typically supply us with the exported generic file rather than the original artwork file and links.

Available Payment Methods

We accept most common credit cards including Mastercard, Visa and American Express via the payment gateway on our website. We also can accept payments via PayPal.
