Backpack Flags & Wearable Advertising Banners
Backpack flags are lightweight wearable advertising displays designed to take your message directly to the audience. Instead of relying on people passing a fixed banner or flag, promotional staff can move through an event, exhibition, shopping area or outdoor promotion while the printed graphic remains clearly visible above and behind them.
Our range uses one versatile backpack hardware system that can be configured in four different ways: feather flag, teardrop flag, rectangular flag or X-banner. Each format creates a different style of advertising display, so you can choose the configuration that best suits your artwork, campaign and intended use.
Backpack banners are particularly useful for promotional agencies, event organisers, charities, fast-food and retail promotions, sampling campaigns, street marketing, exhibitions and other situations where staff need to remain mobile rather than stand beside a fixed display.
Four Backpack Flag Styles – One Reusable System
All four versions use the same lightweight backpack platform. The complete hardware includes the pole components required for feather, teardrop, rectangular and X-banner configurations, so the backpack can be reused and reconfigured with a different compatible graphic in the future.
Feather Backpack Flag
A tall, flowing flag shape designed for bold mobile branding. The fabric graphic projects to the side of the wearer and moves naturally as the wearer walks or when there is a light breeze.
Best for: brand awareness, street promotions, sampling teams and high-visibility event advertising.
View Feather Backpack FlagTeardrop Backpack Flag
A compact curved profile that keeps the visual appearance of a promotional flag while presenting branding above the wearer. Like the feather version, it is best suited to simple artwork that can be recognised quickly.
Best for: events, charities, promotional teams and mobile brand visibility.
View Teardrop Backpack FlagRectangular Backpack Flag
A straight-sided alternative to the curved flag shapes. The rectangular format gives your artwork a more conventional outline while retaining the movement and visibility of a double-sided fabric flag.
Best for: logos, short promotional messages and campaigns that suit a conventional rectangular layout.
View Rectangular Backpack FlagX-Banner Backpack Display
Four support arms hold the rectangular graphic under tension directly behind the wearer. Because the graphic remains relatively flat and faces backwards, it is the best format in the range for more detailed promotional content.
Best for: offers, pricing, calls to action, QR codes and more detailed campaign information.
View X-Banner Backpack DisplayWhich Backpack Flag Should I Choose?
The biggest practical difference is not simply the outline of the graphic. The feather, teardrop and rectangular versions behave like conventional fabric flags, whereas the X-banner behaves more like a flat advertising panel.
| Format | Graphic Direction | Graphic Style | Best Artwork Approach | Typical Uses |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Feather | Side-facing | Curved double-sided fabric flag | Bold logo, colours and short messages | Brand awareness, sampling and street promotion |
| Teardrop | Side-facing | Compact curved double-sided fabric flag | Simple branding designed for quick recognition | Events, charities and promotional teams |
| Rectangle | Side-facing | Straight-sided double-sided fabric flag | Logos, short offers and rectangular layouts | Retail, event and promotional branding |
| X-Banner | Rear-facing | Flat graphic tensioned at four corners | More detailed copy, pricing, offers and QR codes | Product promotions, offers and directional messaging |
Take Your Advertising To The Audience
A conventional freestanding flag or banner advertises from one fixed position and relies on people passing that point. A backpack flag takes a more proactive approach. Because the advertising moves with the wearer, promotional staff can circulate through the audience rather than waiting for the audience to come to the display.
This makes wearable flags particularly effective for street promotions, sampling campaigns, queues, exhibitions, festivals and busy events where promotional teams are already speaking to visitors or distributing material.
The raised graphic also helps staff remain visible in crowded environments. Simple messages such as INFORMATION, REGISTRATION, ASK ME or EVENT TEAM can turn the wearer into a moving information point as well as an advertising display.
Lightweight, Padded & Adjustable
The backpack hardware itself weighs approximately 2 kg, making it a lightweight platform for extended promotional use. The wearer-facing side incorporates soft padding, while two adjustable shoulder straps secure the backpack in a similar way to a conventional rucksack.
A front chest fastening helps keep the shoulder straps in position, and an adjustable waist strap can be tightened to keep the backpack sitting securely against the body rather than moving or skewing as the wearer walks.
For longer campaigns, normal rest breaks are sensible. If the wearer experiences discomfort or fatigue, the backpack should be removed and readjusted before further use.
Useful Built-In Storage
A zipped main compartment provides space for small promotional materials or personal items. With the feather, teardrop and rectangular configurations, the dismantled pole sections and folded fabric graphic can also be packed inside the backpack itself.
Two mesh side pockets provide easy-access storage for items such as a drinks bottle, lightweight samples or small leaflets.
One Universal Backpack Hardware System
The backpack is not dedicated to one graphic shape. The same underlying hardware is supplied with the pole components required to configure it as a feather, teardrop, rectangular or X-banner display.
The universal hardware includes the support components required for all four compatible backpack display formats.
How The Different Formats Connect
The moulded central hub on the rear of the backpack provides the mounting points for the different pole arrangements.
Feather, teardrop and rectangular flags use the appropriate upright sectional pole arrangement connected to the backpack. The X-banner uses four separate support arms which radiate from the central hub and hook into eyelets positioned at the corners of the graphic.
Because the hardware is modular, a customer who initially buys one format can later order a compatible replacement graphic and reconfigure the same backpack for another campaign.
True Double-Sided Fabric Flags
The feather, teardrop and rectangular backpack flags are supplied as true double-sided fabric graphics. Rather than printing one piece of fabric and allowing the image to show through in reverse, we produce two separately printed fabric faces and sew them together with an internal liner.
This construction helps prevent the artwork on one face interfering with the other and, most importantly, allows text and logos to appear correct-reading from both directions.
That is particularly valuable for wearable advertising because people may approach the wearer from either side. The two printed faces can also carry different artwork if required, allowing one side to display one message and the opposite side another.
X-Banner Graphic Options
The X-banner can be supplied with either a PVC or fabric graphic. Both are secured using eyelets positioned at the four corners and are held under tension by the support arms extending from the backpack.
520 gsm Blockout PVC
UV digitally printed onto an opaque blockout PVC. The blockout construction helps prevent the support poles or strong backlighting showing through the face of the graphic.
220 gsm Polyester Fabric
Dye-sublimation printed onto display polyester, hemmed around the perimeter for a neat finish and eyeleted in the corners for attachment to the X-banner support arms.
Graphic Sizes At A Glance
Each format has its own artwork template and safe area. The downloadable templates on the individual product pages should always be used when preparing final print-ready artwork.
| Format | Approx. Graphic Size | Artwork Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Feather | 460 × 1230 mm | Curved profile with pole-pocket area identified on the template. |
| Teardrop | 488 × 1020 mm | Curved teardrop profile; use the template to keep critical content within the visible area. |
| Rectangle | 548 × 816 mm | Allow for the black pole-pocket areas along the supported edges. |
| X-Banner | 600 × 1300 mm | Keep critical content clear of the four eyeleted corners; around 50 mm clearance is recommended. |
Artwork Guidance – Branding Or Detailed Promotion?
Feather, Teardrop & Rectangle
These three versions use side-facing fabric flags which can move as the wearer walks or when exposed to a breeze. For that reason, they work best as a branding exercise rather than as a place for dense information.
- Use a prominent logo or brand mark
- Keep wording short and easy to recognise
- Use strong colour contrast
- Avoid relying on small text
- Keep important artwork clear of the pole-pocket areas shown on the templates
X-Banner
The X-banner faces directly backwards and is tensioned at all four corners, creating a flatter and more conventional advertising panel. It is therefore better suited to artwork containing more specific information.
- Product offers and pricing
- Calls to action
- QR codes
- Directional information
- More detailed promotional messages
Replacement Graphics & Repeat Campaigns
The graphics are not permanently attached to the backpack. They are fitted to the appropriate pole arrangement as part of the normal setup process, so changing from one compatible print to another is straightforward and can normally be done within a couple of minutes.
This is particularly useful for businesses running regularly changing promotions. Fast-food outlets, retailers, agencies and event companies can retain the backpack hardware and order replacement graphics when offers, branding or campaign messages change.
Because the complete hardware supports all four compatible formats, replacement graphics can also be used to change the style of the display rather than simply replace an existing print.
Outdoor Promotions
Backpack flags are widely used for street marketing, food promotions, festivals, charity activities, sporting events and other outdoor campaigns where promotional staff need to move through the audience.
Indoor Events & Exhibitions
They are equally suitable for exhibitions, shopping centres, conference halls, arenas and other larger indoor venues where the raised graphic can help promotional or information staff remain easy to identify.
Teams Of Wearers
Campaigns do not have to rely on a single wearer. Event teams, charities and promotional groups can use several backpack flags at once, increasing visibility across a larger area.
Reusable For Many Events
The backpack hardware is intended for repeat use rather than as a disposable promotional item. With sensible handling, correct storage and replacement graphics when required, the same system can be used across many campaigns.
Outdoor Weather & Wind Guidance
Backpack flags can be used outdoors, but we do not recommend wearing them in strong or gusty winds. Because the graphic extends above the wearer's body, wind acting against the display can create additional leverage and make the backpack uncomfortable or difficult to control.
Strong gusts may also place unnecessary strain on the support poles and other components. Conditions should therefore be assessed at the point of use.
If the wearer feels the display pulling excessively, affecting their balance or becoming uncomfortable to carry, the backpack flag should be removed until conditions improve.
Be Aware Of Your Surroundings
The graphic projects above and behind the wearer, so a degree of spatial awareness is important when moving around crowded venues.
Extra care should be taken when turning, moving through tightly packed areas, passing through doorways or walking beneath low structures. In very congested areas, consider whether a wearable flag is appropriate for the available space.
Care & Storage
Backpack flag systems are designed to be reused over many events, but sensible care will help keep both the hardware and graphics in good condition.
- Allow the backpack and graphic to dry fully before longer-term storage if they become wet.
- Do not pack damp fabric or PVC graphics away for extended periods.
- Fold fabric graphics carefully and avoid unnecessary creasing.
- Check pole sections and connection points before reuse.
- Store the longer X-banner support poles in their separate tube bag.
Backpack Flag FAQs
What is a backpack flag?
A backpack flag is a wearable promotional display consisting of a lightweight backpack harness, support poles and a printed graphic positioned above or behind the wearer. It allows advertising to move with promotional staff rather than remaining in one fixed location.
What is the difference between a backpack flag and a backpack banner?
The terms are often used interchangeably. Feather, teardrop and rectangular versions use fabric flag graphics, while the X-banner configuration uses a rear-facing rectangular graphic tensioned at four corners.
Which backpack flag style is best for detailed information?
The X-banner is the best choice when you need to display pricing, offers, QR codes or more detailed information. Its rear-facing graphic is held relatively flat under tension, making it easier to read than a moving fabric flag.
Which backpack flag style is best for branding?
Feather, teardrop and rectangular fabric flags are particularly effective for logos, brand colours and short promotional messages. Their raised side-facing graphics are designed to attract attention while the wearer moves through an audience.
Are the fabric backpack flags double-sided?
Yes. Feather, teardrop and rectangular versions use two separately printed fabric faces with an internal liner, allowing branding and wording to appear correct-reading from both directions.
Can I use different artwork on each side of a fabric flag?
Yes. Because each face is printed separately, the two sides can carry the same artwork or two different designs.
How much does the backpack hardware weigh?
The backpack hardware weighs approximately 2 kg. The final total weight varies slightly according to the graphic format and print material used.
Can the same backpack be used with all four formats?
Yes. The complete hardware contains the compatible pole components required for feather, teardrop, rectangular and X-banner configurations. You simply need the appropriate compatible graphic for the format you want to use.
How quickly can I change a replacement graphic?
The graphic is fitted as part of the normal setup process, so swapping to another compatible print is straightforward and can usually be done within a couple of minutes.
Can backpack flags be used indoors?
Yes. They are suitable for exhibitions, shopping centres, conference halls, arenas and other larger indoor venues, provided the wearer has enough space to move safely.
Can backpack flags be used outdoors?
Yes, but conditions should be assessed before and during use. We do not recommend wearing a backpack flag in strong or gusty winds. If the display begins pulling excessively, affecting balance or becoming uncomfortable, it should be removed until conditions improve.
Can several members of a promotional team wear backpack flags at the same time?
Yes. Charities, agencies, event organisers and promotional teams often use several wearable displays across a campaign, helping increase visibility over a wider area.
Should a wet backpack flag be packed away?
No. If the backpack or graphic becomes wet, allow it to dry fully before longer-term storage. Packing damp fabric, PVC or the backpack itself away for extended periods is not recommended.
Are backpack flags intended for one-off use?
No. The hardware is designed for repeat use across many events and campaigns. Replacement graphics can be ordered when branding or promotional messages change.
